Can I pay $1 million dollars for the book?
Yes, yes you can. That would be really awesome.
Can I pay $1 for the book?
Yes...but this wouldn't help us out because we'd lose heaps of money.
Where does the money go?
All profits from Chapter One will go towards funding the future of Thankyou. This includes the launch of our Thankyou Baby range, from which 100% of the profits will help fund maternal and child health services, as well as the launch of Thankyou New Zealand!
Isn’t Thankyou ticking along pretty well (eg. products stocked in Coles and Woolworths)? Why does it need our help to grow?
For us every day is a fight. We’ve got our entire team and every resource focused to keep product on shelves and growing in a market with 100s of competitors, most of which are better resourced than us. The good news is, while the fight is real, the model is working! However, to accelerate growth (new markets and new categories) we've had to look at some different options...
Traditionally when businesses scale, they raise capital through investors or use profits. Thankyou has no investors (and can claim 100% of profit to projects) and because we give our profits out (which is great because it means we can fund life changing projects), it makes investing future initiatives very hard. We’ve looked at every option - the positives and negatives. We believe the best one (and maybe the craziest one), is to go to the movement of those who’ve helped get Thankyou to where it is today. We must grow faster because our world needs change now, not in 50 years' time! We are calling out to that philanthropic little part of you, young or old, to help take this to the next level without selling out shares in Thankyou.
Why are you asking people to buy a book and not just donate money to Thankyou?
First, we want to exchange ‘value for value’. You’re giving us your hard-earned cash that we can use to fund our future, so we want to give you our hard-earned lessons so you can use them for your future, whatever that looks like.
Secondly, while we do need funding, we also really need as many people to hear the Thankyou story as possible. This book provides a way to get the story out and funding in.
Are you only trying to raise $1.2 million?
No. $1.2 million was the first target to launch Thankyou baby and Thankyou New Zealand, but you might have noticed there was a third milestone not revealed in the video. Now that, together, we've smash the $1.2 million target, additional funds will go into funding the future of Thankyou beyond our first target. We’ve set up this crowdfunding model to be around forever with the goals that it will just keep growing and growing. It’s open to anyone who wants to buy a book or even wants to donate to see Thankyou succeed over time!
Is my purchase of Chapter One tax deductible?
Unfortunately not. Funds raised are only deductible when an entity is registered as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). Every dollar raised will only be used for the growth of the future of Thankyou, and whilst Thankyou is a registered charity, Thankyou is not a DGR.
Why launch with no RRP and offer ‘pay what you want’?
‘Pay what you want’ is a challenge to all of us. Society tells us what things cost and their value, but we're when faced with the question of how much value we put on something we must stop and think. Everything about Chapter One is about encouraging you to challenge your thinking and empowering you to change stuff, whatever that looks like for you.
How can I get involved with the campaign?
- Buy Chapter One - head to our Chapter One website to buy the book for yourself, a friend, colleague or even someone random!
- Help us spread the word - head to YouTube or our Facebook page and share the #chapterone video as well as some of the other content we've been posting - some of it is a little bit different and a whole lot of fun!

Can I pack books with the team?
Daniel and the Thankyou team have finished packing and shipping out orders of Chapter One now that our target of $1.2 million has been raised (and the warehouse is being turned into a construction site!) and handed over the responsibility to our amazing partners and experts on the job! Thanks heaps for your support though!
Where can I watch the live stream of Daniel and the team packing books in the warehouse?
Our live stream coverage is now completed as Daniel and the Thankyou team have finished packing and shipping out orders of Chapter One (now that our target of $1.2 million has been raised and the warehouse is being turned into a construction site!). However, you can also stay up-to-date with activities by following us on our Twitter and Facebook pages.
Why was Daniel in a warehouse packing books? Shouldn’t he have been out doing other more important stuff?
Right before launch we realised we had a problem. We knew how urgently we needed the $1.2 million target - ideally in the first month. The later we reached it, the harder it would be to make the launches possible. But books are not particularly urgent products. You hear about one that launches and you’re like ‘sweet I’ll buy that one day’. But we need your ‘one day’ to be today. Daniel figured he could help drive home the urgency of the book by making the point of packing them. Like most of his ideas, they sound like fun until you find yourself waking up at 5am to pack around 80,000 books into boxes - but we made it in the end and Daniel had an amazing time meeting all of the incredible volunteers who came to help!
How much does it cost to make Chapter One?
The ‘raw’ book costs approximately $3.50 to make (once you include shipping). Postage and handling costs are different based on where you request the books to be delivered, and are added to your ‘pay what you want’ price.
How much does Daniel make from the sale of the book?
$0. Co-founder, now author, Daniel Flynn makes no profit from the sale of Chapter One. Every cent funds the future of Thankyou. Daniel is on a salary based on the charitable sector standards (well to be accurate, it’s actually lower than the standard). This is paid by Thankyou, and he also makes some additional income through speaking engagements (organised through an agency).
Where else is the book available?
Chapter One is available for purchase at a ‘pay what you want’ price online at our Chapter One webpage and at all Relay, Newslink and Watermark bookstores in Australia and New Zealand. For more info email us at email@example.com.
Chapter One retails for a fixed price at bookstores around the country as well as being available on Booktopia, Book Depository Kindle, Amazon and more. The ‘pay what you want’ price will remain available on our Chapter One webpage and at events where the book is sold.
What formats does the eBook come in?
The eBook is available in ePub (compatible with e-reader devices including iBooks on iOS devices) and Mobi (compatible with Kindle e-readers).
Is there an audiobook?
Exciting news - the audiobook will actually be released soon, and will be available in MP3 format from Bolinda, Audible and on our Chapter One webpage!
How does 'pay what you want' work?
You have the option to pay whatever amount you want! Simply input the price you wish to pay in the purchase section of our website, select the quantity of books you wish to purchase and we'll let you know your contribution to the Future Fund. When you add the order to your cart, you'll notice two different items:
1. Your book choice (digital or paperback)
2. Your nominated price
Your final order (and receipt) will show both items plus shipping and GST included in your purchase.
How do I get my name written into Chapter Two?
The First and Last name entered as the Shipping Address contact for the order will be automatically included in our list of names to be written into Chapter Two. If you want to request a different name to be entered into Chapter Two please forward your confirmation email through firstname.lastname@example.org
What is the 'My Next Chapter' journal?

How can I buy the 'My Next Chapter' journal?
You automatically receive a free copy of the 'My Next Chapter' journal whenever you pay $40 or more for a paperback version of Chapter One. At this stage, My Next Chapter journal is only available for Chapter One book purchases of $40 or more on thankyou.co/chapterone and not available for individual sale.
Are the funding updates on your website 100% accurate?
Even with our best efforts, we aren't able to guarantee that the tracker is 100% accurate at any given moment. Due to varying credit card processing fees with every transaction, the tracker may be under-reporting by 1-3% at any given time. We want to ensure that we give you a figure that is conservative, rather than inflated.
How much do Relay, Newslink and Watermark make from the ‘pay what you want’ arrangement?
They have generously reduced their normal retailer margin and this is capped at an agreed-upon amount. These guys are absolute legends!
How much is postage?
Postage costs are calculated by weight and delivery location of your order using rates sourced directly from Australia Post's shipping system and are based on standard shipping rates within Australia.
How can I purchase the book in bulk?
For any orders over 50 books, head to the Chapter One webpage and click on the button that says 'For orders above 50 books, please click here', fill in the form and someone from the team will be in touch with you to discuss your order. This way you can access a bulk shipping discount to one delivery address.
Note: Thankyou reserves the right to decline bulk orders of books if the pay-what-you-want price is deemed to be too far below a fair and reasonable price. This is built in to stop competitors trying to bankrupt us by ordering a few million books for 10 cents.
When will my order arrive? (Processing + Shipping)
Orders will be processed within 24-48 business hours. Once the order is processed, delivery will take place within 3-6 business days.
Do you deliver outside of Australia?
Yes! You should be able to place your international order via our webpage. If you're experiencing any issues placing your international order, please click on the button that says 'For orders above 50 books, please click here' on our Chapter One webpage, fill in the form and someone from the team will be in touch with you to discuss your order.
What if the recipient is not at home when the parcel is delivered?
Every parcel is dispatched with an Authority to Leave instruction. Provided it is safe to leave the parcel (at the courier’s discretion), your gift pack will be left at the doorstep or in a safe place.
If it is unsafe for the parcel to be left at the address, a notification card will be left with instructions to pick it up at your convenience from the nearest post office during their opening hours. We recommend delivering to a business address or a residential address where you know that someone will be home to accept the delivery.
What if the wrong address is supplied for delivery?
Ensuring that the full and correct street address is provided for delivery is your responsibility, including any business names and unit numbers where applicable. We know that sometimes mistakes are made. If you need to adjust your order please contact us at email@example.com as soon as possible with your order number and the details of the change, and we will do our best to adjust your address. If your order has been dispatched, no changes or cancellations can be made.
Do I receive confirmation of my order?
Yes, we will send you an email confirming your order. If you can’t find it, have a look in your trash folder, if it’s still not there please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What method of payment is accepted?
We accept Visa, MasterCard and Amex payments. Credit card payments are made through a secure online portal called Stripe. It is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1, the most stringent level of certification. No sensitive data is kept on our servers so you can shop online safely and securely with us.
Can I change my mind after placing an order?
If you contact us before your order has been dispatched, we’ll do our best to amend or cancel your order. Unfortunately, after the order has been dispatched, no changes or cancellations can be accepted.

What if I want to cancel my order?
We are able to help you with cancelling your order only if we are informed prior to dispatch. We will be unable to accept cancellations once your order has been dispatched.
I like to hate on stuff and troll other people’s positive campaigns online. How can I get involved with the campaign?
